Palms Cycle is the Place to Buy Christmas Gifts in West Los Angeles

Palms Cycle is oldest bike shop in Los Angeles.  Since 1930, moms, dads, husbands, wives, and sweethearts have been coming in to pick out a perennially perfect Christmas gift for their loved ones.

"Our family took over the shop in 1951 when Schwinn tank bikes were all the rage," says owner Cap Rancier.  "As a teenager, I experienced the huge bicycle boom of the '70's where Schwinn Crates, banana seats and sissy bars were the hot tip.  Older kids and adults were learning how to use 10 gears instead of 3, and the European and Japanese bikes were generating a lot of excitement."

Today, fixed gear bikes and cruisers are the one-two punch for low cost Christmas bikes," says Cap.  "The kids and young adults love the experience of fixed gear or fixie bikes.  There is a physical difference in needing to pedal all the time.  But you may have noticed the aesthetic difference as kids of all ages are adding color to the bikes on everything from sprockets to tires.  When bicycles are both fun and great transportation, that when we see the most success."

Palms Cycle has made the stores history a big part of its sales story.  "We carry almost 100 old school bikes which can be rented for music videos, movies, commercials, or any other kind of theatrical or advertising purpose.  These bikes are also for sale as is, or we will restore them to your taste.  Many stores don't want their products to be museum pieces," laughs Cap, "but in our case, we enjoy helping folks to relive their youth.  And we are glad to have been a source of so much Christmas joy for almost 60 years."
